چکیده

INTRODUCTION The influence of molecular diffusion on the MR signal can be exploited to estimate compartment size distributions in heterogeneous specimens [1]. There has been recent interest in adopting this idea to characterize axon diameter distributions in white matter [2]. To this end, previous studies have assumed a known statistical distribution of compartment sizes (such as log-normal or gamma distributions). However, neural tissue does not necessarily conform to such parametric distributions. In this study, we describe an alternative strategy to measure all moments of the compartment size distribution directly from a single diffusion-weighted MR signal decay curve, hence obviating the assumed existence of a known parametric size distribution.

Nuclear magnetic resonance characterization of general compartment size distributions

The influence of molecular diffusion on the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal can be exploited to estimate compartment size distributions in heterogeneous specimens. Theoretical relationships between the NMR signal intensity at long diffusion times and the moments of a general distribution of isolated pores with characteristic shapes (planar, cylindrical or spherical) are established. A n...

The Stage Dependent Effect of Capping Agent Introduction in the Synthesis of Magnetite Nanoparticles

In this paper, three techniques to obtain capped magnetite nanoparticles were compared. In the formation of magnetite nanoparticles via the co-precipitation route, capping agents were introduced pre-, simultaneously with, or post-addition of the precipitating agent, ammonia. The amino acids L-glutamine and L-glutamic acid were used as the capping agents. Characterization via TEM, pXRD, EDX, and...

Synthesis, Spectroscopy and Magnetic Characterization of Five Dinuclear Copper(II) Complexes with 2, 3 or 4-Pyridinemethanol as the Ligand

The synthesis, spectroscopy and magnetic characterization of five new dinuclear copper(II) complexes are described. All five compounds have the general formula [Cu2(L)4(O-R)2](Cl)2 or [Cu2(L)2(Cl)2](Cl)2, in which R = CH3 or H, L=2, 3 or 4-pyridinemethanol as L2, L3 or L4, respectively. The title compounds consist of dinuclear units with bridging methoxo groups in [Cu2(L4)4(O-CH3)2](Cl)2, hydro...

Synthesis and characterization of Fe3O4@Ag core-shell: structural, morphological, and magnetic properties

This paper is a report on the synthesis of the Fe3O4@Ag core-shell with high saturation magnetization of magnetite nanoparticles as the core, by using polyol route and silver shell by chemical reduction. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses confirmed that the particles so produced were monophase. The magnetic properties of the product were investigated by...
